PAWTUCKET â Tolman High dealt a crushing blow to Shea Highâs playoff chances on Monday.
The Tigers rolled to a 15-5 victory over the Raiders in a Division II contest shortened to six innings by rain at McConnon Field.
Tolman improved to 10-6 with the win while Shea fell to 6-10.
âItâs kind of a bittersweet win for us,â Tolman coach Theo Murray said, âbecause Shea needed to win two of three games this week to be playoff-eligible. Now they have to win their last two games, and they play two tough teams, Wheeler and Juanita Sanchez.â
The Tigers are third in Division II-Central, trailing first-place Central and second-place Juanita Sanchez.
They also have two games left â Hope on Wednesday and Mount Pleasant on Thursday. The playoffs are scheduled to begin next week.
The Tigers broke open Mondayâs game with a 9-run outburst in the bottom of the second inning. Troy Sawyerâs three-run double and a two-run single by winning pitcher Chris Messier highlighted the rally.
Messier pitched all six innings to get the win. Eric Geisman took the loss for Shea.
