Red Sox fans saw their team die a slow death during the regular season. Yankee fans have to wait until late October to see their team die. What's the difference? If you don't win the World Series, it doesn't matter when your season ends.
It's 1-0 Rangers in the fourth. Still time to stall the inevitable.
(Editor's note: This is the first blog entry for sports editor Terry Nau on our updated website. Feel free to comment. I won't be writing about the Yankees again until next month when they sign Cliff Lee!)
12:15 a.m. -- Game's over. Yanks lose, 6-1, as A-Rod takes a called third strike to end it.
Rangers were the better team by a wide margin and will make an excellent representative for the American League in the World Series.
Interesting night at the office. We had two big football games today. Woonsocket came out of its bye week with a vengeance, beating Toll Gate, which came in with a 3-1 record, by a 48-0 margin.
The Villa Novans, who are the defending Division II state champions, made a major statement with this victory. Tolman may be undefeated but the Tigers better keep an eye on Woonsocket. The two teams met early in the season and Tolman pulled out a 6-0 victory.
Both teams have improved since then. I'm predicting right now that these are the two Division II Super Bowl participants.
Don't forget, the quarterfinal round of the Division II playoffs are set for the weekend of Nov. 12-13.
In today's other major game, Lincoln hurt its Division III playoff hopes with a 23-7 loss to Narragansett. The Lions fell to 3-3 in league play and probably need to win out to make the playoffs. Only four teams qualify in D-III.
In other games today, Ponaganset routed Pilgrim, 39-13; Burrillville stopped Scituate, 28-6 and Smithfield fell to EWG, 42-13.
