Teen accused of burning young relative with lighter

August 7, 2012

PAWTUCKET — A 13-year-old boy is accused of burning a two-year-old relative with a cigarette lighter while he and an adult couple were babysitting the little boy in a house on Bloomfield Street, Pawtucket Police said.
According to Major Arthur Martins, the victim had burn marks all over his neck, arm, back and groin. The boy's mother and the state Department of Children, Youth and Families reported the injuries to Pawtucket Police on July 30.
After an investigation, detectives on Monday arrested the teenager and the couple, identified as Jay Taylor, 42, and his wife, Kimberly, 44, of Grand Avenue, and all were charged with second-degree child abuse. The teenager is accused of burning the child and the Taylors were found to have been home at the time and neglected to notice or report the abuse, said Martins.
All three are expected in Family Court on Wednesday.
