Sister Mary Gibson
LEOMINSTER- Sister Mary Gibson, 84 formerly known as Sister Mary Rose, of the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, died Thursday July 12, 2012 at St. Mary's Heath Care Center in Worcester, MA.
Sister Mary was born in Pawtucket, RI on May 11, 1928, a daughter of the late Joseph and Emma (McCarrion) Gibson.
She was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, Pawtucket, RI, and entered the Sisters of the Presentation in 1947, professing her final vows in 1952.
Sister received a Bachelors degree in Education from Regina Coeli College in Fitchburg, MA and a Masters Degree in Reading from Rhode Island College in 1973.
Her teaching career included St. Bernard Elementary School in Fitchburg, St. Leo School in Leominster and St. Mary School in Ayer all in Massachusetts and St. Benedict in Warwick, Sacred Heart in Woonsocket, Holy Trinity and St. Elizabeth Ann Set on Academy in Central Falls, all in Rhode Island. From 2003 until the time of her retirement in 2006, she was a Commissioner for HUD in Central Falls.
Besides her Presentation Community, Sister Mary leaves her sister, Joan Robinson of Chicago and two nieces, Karen Tanguay of Connecticut and Ann-Marie Lefebvre of Rhode Island. She was predeceased by her parents and a sister, Ann Benoit.
Her Funeral will be celebrated on Saturday, July 14, with a Mass at 11:30 a.m. in the Presentation Convent Chapel, 99 Church Street, Leominster, MA.
Burial will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery, in Fitchburg.
Calling Hours will be held at the convent on Friday, July 13, 2012 from 6-8 P.M. with a prayer service at 7 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the Presentation Retirement Fund, 99 Church Street, Leominster, MA 01453 or may be left at the convent.
The Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli and the Fitchburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes, 243 Water Street, is directing the Funeral Arrangements.
