PAWTUCKET - Sgt. Adrian Silva, Pawtucket Police Department (Ret.) of Prospect St, Pawtucket died March 13, 2011. He was the loving husband of Thelma (Williams) Silva.
Sgt. Silva was born on July 9, 1927 in Central Falls the son of the late Alfredo and Joaquina (Ventura) Silva. He was a Policeman for the City of Pawtucket for over twenty nine years retiring as the Chief of Prosecution in Pawtucket. He was a United States Navy Veteran of WWII where he served on the aircraft carrier USS Bonhamme Richards in the South Pacific. He then served in the Korean War aboard the USS Coral in the Mediterranean. He was the President of the RI Commissioned Officers Association, member of the Fraternal Order of Police #4, RI State FOP Lodge and the Pawtucket Police Association.
Sgt. Silva graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelors degree in Administration of Justice, from Salve Regina University. He also attended Bryant University and the University of RI and MA.
Besides his wife he is survived by his children, Adrian Paul Silva and Leslie Silva-Pietraszka, his grandchildren, Adrienne Rae and Jared Thomas Pietraszka, and his girlfriend Brittany Pine. He was the beloved great grandfather of Reece Thomas Rivera. Sgt. Silva leaves behind his best friend the former Chief of police Theodore King. He was preceeded in death by his sister Lillian Gonsalves and his son in law Thomas Pietraszka.
Sgt. Silva devoted his retirement to his family, traveling and the New England Patriots, a season ticket holder for the past forty years.
The funeral for Sgt. Silva will be Thursday at 9:00 a.m. from the MANNING-HEFFERN FUNERAL HOME, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Teresa's Church, 358 Newport Avenue, Pawtucket at 10:00 a.m. His burial will be with full Military Honors in Mt. St. Mary's Cemetery.
