PAWTUCKET - Samuel Sabbagh, 87, of Pawtucket, retired Electrical Contractor, passed away Monday, March 17, 2014 surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Margaret (Haddad) Sabbagh. They were happily married for 64 years. Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Farrah) Sabbagh.
Sam "Gid" was a decorated purple heart, WWII veteran and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans organization. Sam was an active, vibrant member of St. Basil The Great Church, Lincoln, RI, as a choir member, and was instrumental in helping run many church sponsored events and established the first St. Basil Senior Citizen organization. For his years of devotion and service to the Church, Sam was honored with the "Cross of Jerusalem". He was an active member and past President of the St. Vincent DePaul Society, Branch of Damascus, Syria, for over 70 years. Throughout Sam's life, he unselfishly gave to his community, friends, and especially his family whom he so deeply loved and was proud of. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Besides his wife, he is survived by five children, Joseph, Thomas, and Kenneth Sabbagh, Judy Rawan and Joyce Perry, 12 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and his sister Margaret Hanna. He was the grandfather of the late Angela Sabbagh and the brother of the late Rose Domaney, Nedeh Kanakry, and Josephine Sabbagh.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 10am in Saint Basil The Great Church, 15 Skyview Drive, Lincoln. Burial with military honors will be in Saint Basil's Cemetery, Cumberland. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours Thursday from 4-7pm in the church. In lieu of flowers, donations to Saint Basil's Building Fund, would be appreciated.
