PAWTUCKET - Rosemary "Bud" McDermott died Friday, March 25, 2011 peacefully at home surrounded by her family after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late John E. O’Neil Jr. and Rosemary (McCann) O’Neil. She was the wife of fifty two years to John J. McDermott.
Mrs. McDermott was a cum laude graduate of Bryant University with a degree in Business Education.
She taught at Guilford High School in Connecticut, Greystone Elementary School and Hubbard Business School. She was secretary of the Rev. Aaron Usher at St. Martin's Church for thirteen years.
Mrs. McDermott was an avid golfer and belonged to the Pawtucket Country Club and the Bear Lakes Country Club. She was a member of the Rhode Island Womans Golfers Association. She was a former member of Ballen Isles for over fifteen years. Mrs. McDermott made the last hole in one of the millennium at Augusta National Golf Club.
Besides her husband Mrs. McDermott leaves her five daughters, Elizabeth Spencer and her husband David, Margaret O'Neill and her husband Peter, Anne McDermott, Jane Green and her husband Joseph and Jacqueline Marovelli and her husband Bruno. She also leaves her grandchildren, Samuel, Julia, Anna, and Rachel Spencer; Peter and Patrick O'Neill; Carolyn, Michael, and Sarah Green, Christopher, John, and Lauren Marovelli. She was the sister of the late John E. O'Neil III and David J. O'Neil.
The funeral for Mrs. McDermott will be Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. from the MANNING-HEFFERN FUNERAL HOME, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady Queen of Martyr Church, formerly St. Mary's, Coyle Drive, Seekonk MA, at 10:00am. Her burial will be in Seekonk Cemetery, Seekonk Ma.
