PAWTUCKET - Roland G. LaPalme, 87, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 13, 2014. He was the beloved husband of Theresa I. (Dupuis) LaPalme for 65 years. Born in Pawtucket, the son of the late Dona V. and Marie L. (Boucher) LaPalme, he was raised in Seekonk and Pawtucket. Upon the death of his father at a young age, he spent summers, holidays and weekends with his late uncle and aunt, Pasquale "Peck" and Emma (Boucher) DePietro and cousins, Louise (DePietro) Bossardt of Mansfield, MA and the late George DePietro on their farm on Brown Ave. Seekonk. The time spent on the farm gave him many happy memories and some hilarious stories.
Roland attended St. Cecilia's School and was a drummer in the marching band and a member of the Acrobatic team. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran stationed in Washington State. When his late son, Edward was young he coached CYO Little League for St. Cecilia's. Roland was employed by New England Produce (Almacs) for 23 years until retiring, and was a member of Teamsters Local 251. He was a past commander of AMVETS Post 33; former member of the Pawtucket Lodge of Elks and a former associate member of the IDIP Club. Roland enjoyed golfing, playing cards and camping.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Irene S. LaPalme of Pawtucket; a grandson, Jason LaPalme; two great-granddaughters, Danielle and Nicolette and a great-grandson, Lucas all of Virginia. He was the father of the late Edward R. LaPalme. He is also survived by a nephew, Donald Dupuis and his wife, Joanne and a niece, Diane Baril and her husband, Normand all of North Attleboro. He loved his family deeply and will be greatly missed by them including his "pretty girl", Beatrice; "kitty princess", Tobey and "his little rat chaser", Wilson.
VISITATION will begin Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the CHEETHAM Funeral Home, 1012 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Cecilia Church, 755 Central Ave. Interment will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery.
