Roland E. Desmarais
ATTLEBORO - Roland E. Desmarais, 88, of North Avenue, Attleboro Ma, died Wednesday, February 2, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Irene (Lenzini) Desmarais. They were to celebrate their seventieth wedding anniversary in July.
Mr. Desmarais was born in Central Falls, the son of the late Joseph and Bertha (Brazeau) Desmarais Jr. He served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre during WWII and then worked as a carpenter for many years with Desmarais Construction and E & D Construction. He was a member of the Carpenters Union 94, the Elk's 1014 of Attleboro and a longtime communicant of the former St. Mary's Church in Seekonk Ma, now Our Lady Queen of Martyrs.
Mr. Desmarais truly enjoyed owning three race horses, fishing, boating, the New England Patriots, and the Boston Red Sox. Most of all he enjoyed time spent with his family and friends especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Besides his wife Mr. Desmarais is survived by his children, Dennis Desmarais of Spring Hill, Florida and his partner Georginia Meyer, Jo-Ann Galligan of Pocasset Ma and her husband Paul and his daughter in law Linda Desmarais. He also leaves nine grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Wayne (Skip) Desmarais and the brother of the late Beatrice Ray and Theodore Desmarais.
The funeral for Mr. Desmarais will be Monday at 8:45 am from the MANNING-HEFFERN FUNERAL HOME, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Coyle Drive Seekonk Ma, at 10:00am. The calling hours will be Sunday 2-5pm in the funeral home. His burial will be in Mt.
