LINCOLN - Robert Fortunati, 79, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 16, 2012. Bob was born Roberto Guglielmo Fortunati, in Providence, to the late Fabio and Annuziata (DiSantis) Fortunati. Starting early in the tile business, he left for the US Army as a young man and was stationed in Germany. Once returning, he soon founded Crest Distributors, Inc., established in Central Falls, his most successful endeavor.
Bob was in the tile business for over 45 years. He enjoyed running his tile company through the years as well as many other entrepreneurial adventures. During his time he traveled extensively through Europe on business trips. He worked tirelessly at his businesses and his work ethic was beyond compare, later founding Bells Farms Restaurant of Smithfield as well as Sayles Mill Realty.
He had a true passion for family traditions, and was always a giving man to friends and family. One of his strong passions was for cooking, which was passed down from his mother. Bob was a man of strong and unwavering opinion; a spirited character who will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Matilda "Tillie" (Lapham) Fortunati; his daughter, Robin Young and her husband Jason of So. Attleboro; two grandchildren, Jason David "JD" and Bailey M. Young both of So. Attleboro; four siblings, Mary Ranallo of No. Kingston, Albert Fortunati of No. Providence, Joseph Fortunati of No. Smithfield and Rose Boisse of So. Attleboro and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Catherine Christopher and Phillip Fortunati.
His funeral will be held Friday at 10 a.m. from WILLIAM W. TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Teresa Church, 358 Newport Ave., Pawtucket. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Mt. St. Mary Cemetery. VISITATION will be Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. If desired, gifts in Bob's memory to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
