NORTH ATTLEBORO - Robert Edward Mercier, 76, a longtime resident of North Attleboro died early Tuesday, October 23, 2012 in Sturdy Memorial Hospital, Attleboro with his loving family by his side. He was the husband of Annette (Brodeur) Reynolds Mercier for over eight years and husband of the late Evelyn (Vaillancourt) Mercier who passed away in 2002.
Born June 28, 1936 in Attleboro, he was the son of the late Edward F. and Florence L. (Charron) Mercier.
Robert grew up in Attleboro and attended Attleboro High School before receiving his G.E.D. in the military. He has been a resident of North Attleboro since 1957 and a part-time resident of Titusville, FL since 2000.
After receiving his G.E.D., he attended Johnston & Wales College for two years.
Robert was a U.S. Marine Corps Corporal, serving in the Korean War from 1956 until 1962. He worked for 12 years as a Senior Appraiser at Amica Insurance and 30 years doing repairs and refinishing automobiles at various local body shops.
He was an active outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting and archery. He was a member of the Angle Tree Stone Rod & Gun Club in North Attleboro, G.O.A.L. (Gun Owners Action League), the N.R.A. and B.A.S.S. fishing club. He also loved restoring classic cars in his younger days and was an avid New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children: Debra Ann and her husband Byron Taylor of Seekonk, Lori and her husband Jim Bateson, Jr. of South Attleboro, Edward R. and his wife Michelle Mercier of Fryeburg, ME, and Rachael Lynn and her husband Gavin Robichaud of Attleboro; four step-children: Debbie Grasso of Chepachet, RI, Bernie and Diane McNiff of Woodstock, CT, Donna Reynolds of Milford, NH and Richard Reynolds of Warwick, RI; six grandchildren: Sabrina Taylor, Sarah Taylor, Kaitlyn Robichaud, Austin Robichaud, Kyle Mercier and Krista Mercier; seven step-grandchildren: Joel Grasso, Ryan Grasso, Elijah Grasso, Katie McNiff, Kerie McNiff, Michael Reynolds and Joshua Reynolds; 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late Claire Archambault and Gloria Bouthillette.
Pursuant to Robert's wishes, calling hours are omitted. A graveside service with U.S. Marine Honors will be held privately at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland, R.I.
