Robert E. Larence
CUMBERLAND - Robert E. Larence, 75, of Cumberland passed away Friday at the Oakland Grove Health Care Center, Woonsocket. He was the husband of Beatrice (Salois) Larence.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Mozart and Jennie (Pandolfi) Larence. He was a life-long resident of Cumberland.
Mr. Larence was a Rhode Island National Guard Veteran.
He was a graduate of Cumberland High School, Class of 1957 and Salve Regina University, Class of 1971.
Robert was employed as a Sergeant and Detective for the Cumberland Police Department for 30 years until his retirement in 1991. He was a founder of the Cumberland Police Mounted Patrol. He was past president and treasurer of the Fraternal Order of Police, Cumberland Lodge #14. He was also a past volunteer firefighter for the Cumberland Hill Fire Department for many years, later becoming fire commissioner.
He was a communicant of St. Joan of Arc Church, Cumberland. He was an avid woodworker, he loved doing crafts, but most of all loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he leaves his children, Brenda Alden and Robert B. Larence and his wife Donna, both of Cumberland; five grandchildren, Jennie Brunelle, Erica Larence, Christa Larence, Brian Larence and Julie Alden; and one great-grandson, Charles McCarthy, all of Cumberland.
A celebration of his life will be held Wednesday at 9 AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Joan of Arc Church, Mendon Road, Cumberland. Burial with military honors will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting Hours will be held Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Cumberland FOP, Lodge #14, Cumberland.
