Rita M. Lacourse
PAWTUCKET - Rita M. Lacourse, 88, of Pawtucket, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2011. She was the beloved and devoted wife of Maurice Lacourse. They were happily married for sixty four years. Born in Central Falls, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Emma (Girouard) Girouard. She had lived in Central Falls for twenty four years before moving to Pawtucket in 1950.
Mrs. Lacourse was a secretary to the Director of Public Welfare for six years and secretary at the La Salette Retreat House for one year in Attleboro, MA. A longtime member of Saint Cecilia Church, she was a Eucharistic Minister, serving and visiting the sick and writing letters to the families. She taught CCD for several years, volunteering at the school for five years and helping out at the Rectory as needed. She was an active member of the Third Order of Mary, serving as secretary for a number of years.
Besides her loving husband, she is survived by three loving children, Cecile Lacourse of Pawtucket, Pauline Armfield of North Attleboro, MA, one son, Maurice G. Lacourse of Milford, NH, four cherished grandchildren Erik Armfield, Niki McDavitt, Kim Armfield, and Jessica Lacourse, and five precious great grandchildren, Shaylin, Devan, Arianna,Savannah, and Alexander. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Reverend George Girouard, Edna, Edmond, and Roland Girouard.
The funeral will be held Monday at 10am from the COSTIGAN-O'NEILL Funeral Home, 220 Cottage Street, Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in Saint Cecilia Church, Central Avenue, Pawtucket. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours Sunday 3-6pm.
