PROVIDENCE â€“ With Colorado and Washington State having legalized the possession and sale of recreational marijuana earlier this year, and a poll of Rhode Island voters showing 53 percent of Rhode Islanders favoring the legalization, regulation and taxing of the drug for sale to adults, legislation to do just that has been introduced in the General Assembly.
The sponsors, Rep. Edith Ajello in the House of Representatives and Sen. Joshua Miller in the Senate, have both submitted similar legislation for the last three years, only to see it die in committee. But at a Statehouse press conference on Wednesday, both said that this year momentum might be on their side.
