Residents to weigh in on fire merger

CUMBERLAND — Residents will get the opportunity on Aug. 7 to offer input on a proposed plan to consolidate the town's fire services as a single municipal public safety department that would not only include the town's four independent fire districts, but emergency medical service and police as well.
At a Town Council meeting last week, Mayor Daniel J. McKee requested that the council hold a special meeting and public hearing on Tuesday, Aug. 7 to discuss and solicit public input on the final findings and recommendations of a fire department merger study conducted over the past year by Donald I. Jacobs of Holden-based D.I. Jacobs Management Consulting Services.
