PAWTUCKET â Some clubhouse reaction from Pawtucketâs 4-3 win against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Friday night, a win the leaves the locals a combination of one win and a Lehigh Valley loss away from clinching the I.L. North
Manager Arnie Beyeler on throw by centerfielder Che-Hsuan Lin in the eighth inning that cut down the potential tying run at third base:
âThatâs a big play. To take the out right there ⊠maybe (Lin) has a play at the plate, but to take the out when youâre up like that, thatâs huge to get us out of the inning. Those are the little things you keep harping on. We watched J.D. Drew do that the other night and to see those guys do those sorts of things ⊠those are things that need to be done at the big-league level. At this level itâs called development.â
Beyeler on Matt Fox gutting his way through five innings after throwing 50-plus pitches in the first two frames:
âFor him to hang in there to give us five innings, thatâs a veteran guy who helps his team out. Instead of going three and bailing and now we have to get into the âpen early ⊠he did a nice job.â
Drew Sutton on his first game back after missing the previous month with a dislocated finger (Sutton served as Pawtucketâs DH Friday, going 1-for-3 with a run scored):
âThere were a couple of worries, wondering how I would feel if I hit a ball off the end or like (Friday) when I got jammed and the bat broke. I really didnât feel anything so thatâs a good sign.
Sutton laughed when told by a reporter he looked like a deer when he went from first to home on Ryan Lavarnwayâs double in the third inning.
âIâm trying to keep up with everything else. Iâve been running and hitting for a week, but Iâll completely take it after not seeing live pitching for a month.â
Beyeler says he expects that Sutton will play the field Saturday.
âYou play a game and see how it feels. You play in the field and see how it feels after that, but (the finger) feels fine and the movement ⊠Iâm encouraged.â
Matt Fox on the PawSox having to wait another day before officially clinching a playoff spot.
âEverybody wants it to happen already so we can maybe prepare for the playoffs instead of worrying. Itâs in our own hands. If we win, weâre in. Weâre just going to take it one game at a time. Our goal is to win (Saturday) and we do that I think we have a pretty good shot of getting in. Thatâs the main goal.â
