Raymond F. Noonan
PAWTUCKET - Raymond F. Noonan, 95, of Pawtucket, died Monday, January 10, 2011 at Epoch on Blackstone. He was the husband of the late Anna (Wynne) Noonan.
Born in Pawtucket and a lifelong resident, he was the son of Edward J. Noonan and Anna J. Bowen Foley Noonan.
He was a 1932 graduate of Pawtucket High School. He graduated from Brown in 1936 and attended Harvard Law School with the class of 1939. He was captain of the 1935-36 Brown basketball team, selected for the all-New England team, and elected by his peers to the Brown all-decade team.
He was a lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the South Pacific and occupied Japan.
From 1936 to 1959 he operated a family business, Noonan's Cafe, on Montgomery Street in Pawtucket.
Later, he worked as a stock broker, an inspector with the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax Bureau, and a Food Programs Specialist with the Federal Food Stamp Program.
He was a life member of the Pawtucket Lodge of Elks. He had been Secretary of the Brown Club of Rhode Island and Secretary of the Pawtucket Boys Club Alumni Association.
He was the father of the late Christine A. Noonan of Ardmore, PA. He is survived by a daughter, Anne F. Noonan (James Rathmann), of Bonita Springs, FL and Westport, MA, two sons: Edward R. Noonan (Maryann Johnson) of Bethesda, MD and Raymond W. Noonan of Pawtucket, and five grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, January 14, at 11:30 AM at St. Maria Goretti Church, Power Road, Pawtucket. Interment will follow at Mt. Saint Mary's Cemetery, Pawtucket. Calling hours will be Thursday, January 13, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Manning-Heffern Funeral Home, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket. Relatives and friends are invited.
