Ratha Dasi Heyda
NORTH CAROLINA - Ratha Dasi Heyda, also known as Rasa, 41, died peacefully at her family's home in North Carolina surrounded by loved ones on 24 Dec 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. She had most recently worked as a triple board resident (pediatrics, psychiatry, and child psychiatry) at Brown University while living in Pawtucket.
Rasa is survived by her father, Larry Heyda of North Carolina; her mother Victoria Heyda of Vrindavan, India; her sister Sara Heyda of North Carolina; her stepmother Karen Heyda of North Carolina; and her cousins, Patty Heyda of St. Louis and Karen Heyda-Jackson of Virginia.
Memorial services have already been held in North Carolina and at Bradley Hospital in East Providence.
Rasa was raised in the Hare Krishna tradition on the West Coast, cultivated diverse interests in painting, Indian drumming, and languages, and worked as an elementary school teacher before entering medical school at Duke, where she had previously attended college. There she was the primary author for a published study entitled Brain Mechanisms Involved in Representing the Contents of Another Person's Visual Field. At Brown, she excelled as a clinician and colleague; her devotion to patient care was unmatched.
