During the Governor Carcieri Official Portrait Unveiling in the State Room at the Rhode Island Statehouse in downtown Providence, RI on Thursday night, December 30, 2010, Governor Donald Carcieri who holds his 3 year old granddaughter Susannah Compton(North Kingstown, RI) explains the various elements of his portrait by RI artist Harley Bartlett of Hope, RI. His portrait contains an avenger which is the mascot of East Greenwich High School where Governor Carcieri met his wife First Lady Suzanne Carcieri, a portrait of his wife First Lady Suzanne Carcieri, a family portrait and a ships wheel which was a present from his children to steer Rhode Island away from the rocks. State law requires that an official portrait be commissioned for each Governor before he or she leaves office. The official portrait will hang in the halls of the Statehouse along with past governors.
