Pet food company buys building in Pawtucket

PAWTUCKET—In a move that is being hailed as a major win by city officials, a growing pet food and supply company has purchased the Benjamin F. Chester Building at 175 Main St. as its corporate headquarters.
The Pawtucket Redevelopment Agency (PRA), the City of Pawtucket and Pet Food Experts Inc., a major pet food and pet supply distributor, jointly announced on Wednesday that they have reached terms for Pet Food Experts to purchase the PRA-owned building. The three-story brick building, built in 1969 for the former Peerless department store, currently houses the Blackstone Valley Visitor Center, the city's Planning Department offices and other tenants, and occupies a prominent block in the downtown.
The building had been listed for $3.2 million and is being purchased for $2.2 million, according to city officials. While the purchase and sale hasn't been finalized, the PRA voted this week to accept the offer made by Pet Food Experts, city officials said. Read the full story in Friday's Times.
