Paying it forward in literary fashion

July 27, 2014

PAWTUCKET — Mark Binder, author of the groundbreaking children’s book “Cinderella Spinderella,” is taking his work one step further with the “Pay a Book Forward” campaign.

Binder, an award-winning author and story performer, developed “Cinderella Spinderella” with illustrator Steve Mardo to give readers a choice in how the characters are portrayed. The book can be ordered with Cinderella and the Prince as black, white, Asian, Hispanic or Indian. What began as a spoken-word story of Binder’s turned into a very original way of telling a classic fairytale, allowing readers of all ages and origins to personalize their book.

“ ‘Cinderella Spinderella’ is a book that celebrates diversity and owning your identity,” notes the author. “It not only teaches a lesson, but it is a beautifully illustrated and really fun story to read.”
Now, Binder aims to bring “Cinderella Spinderella” to audiences unable to afford copies of their own.
