Pawtucket man arrested in bottle-throwing incident

March 14, 2012

PAWTUCKET — A male suspect who crashed a party on March 4 and then threw a beer bottle through a window, seriously injuring a man sitting nearby, was arrested by Pawtucket Police on Monday and charged with felony assault.
Adilson Fernandes, 30, of Mansfield Street, Providence, was identified by Pawtucket Police as the suspect in the incident, said Major Arthur Martins. Fernandes was arraigned Monday in District Court on the charges and surety bail was set at $2,500.
According to the police report, Fernandes was one of three individuals who arrived at a party in an apartment on Pawtucket Avenue on that Sunday night. The three were reportedly unknown to the hosts of the party, but were eventually allowed in because of a mutual friendship with another guest. Police said that at some point, a female guest noticed that her cell phone was missing and the three men were accused of the theft and ordered to leave.
Police said that one of the men, later identified as Fernandes, allegedly hurled a beer bottle through the apartment's window, where it struck 36-year-old Jose Vaz, of Pawtucket, in the head. The broken glass caused a severe laceration to Vaz' head and a large loss of blood. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Martins said that through an investigation, police were later able to identify Fernandes as the suspect.
