Pawtucket Boys & Girls Club breaks ground on expansion

March 14, 2014

PAWTUCKET — If you build it, they will learn, use computers, make music, and play sports. Next year, local youths will have a new, state-of-the-art place to gather thanks to an addition to the Boys & Girls Club of Pawtucket's facility at One Moeller Place.

A groundbreaking celebration for the expansion project was held Friday afternoon at the Alfred Elson, Jr. Clubhouse, located off School Street. Hundreds of Pawtucket and Central Falls pre-teen and teens, sporting Boys & Girls Club of Pawtucket sweatshirts and hard hats, joined club and local officials, trustees and supporters to kick off the construction and renovations.

The project, which began in 2010 with an $8 million capital campaign, will usher in many facility improvements for the facility. These include an 18,000-square-foot addition that will house a new teen center and gymnasium and a total renovation of the existing clubhouse with space for education, technology, and centralized visual and performing art studios. The new addition is expected to open in 2015.
