PAWTUCKET — Standing on a traffic island on Taft Street, Jack Partridge used his hands to frame the scenic image made by the weathered stone of the Division Street bridge paralleled with the modern steel arches of the adjacent Pawtucket River Bridge. “Look at all those angles these two bridges make. And you don’t see stonework like that anymore. People in New York City would love to see this,” the attorney marveled.
As a city native and co-founder of The Pawtucket Foundation, Partridge has long been championing Pawtucket’s assets. On Friday, he and Pawtucket Foundation Executive Director Aaron Hertzberg pitched in with about 100 volunteers to clean and spruce up the city on Pawtucket Proud Day.
One of the sites getting special treatment that day was a nondescript traffic island leading to the two bridges. A crew of volunteers placed flowers, shrubs and mulch down the center, which immediately beautified the urban landscape on a formerly desolate section of Taft Street.
