PawSox top Braves, 5-1
Rubby De La Rosa
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. --- The Pawtucket Red Sox bounced back nicely from their no-hit loss at home on Sunday by kicking off their eight-day road trip on Monday night with a 5-1 victory over the Gwinnett Braves.
The PawSox, who collected 10 hits to hand their hosts their ninth straight loss, used two of them to break out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, as Ryan Lavarnway collected a two-out single and Mark Hamilton followed with an opposite-field home run to left field.
In the fourth, Brock Holt (who along with Lavarnway, finished the night with two hits) gave the PawSox a 3-0 lead with a line RBI single, and in the seventh, Lavarnway added a run-scoring single and Holt raced home on a wild pitch.
PawSox starting pitcher Rubby De La Rosa was brilliant as he worked a season-high four innings and 56 pitches (37 for strikes). He struck out six batters, set down the final seven batters he faced, and allowed three hits, no walks, and no runs.
Reliever Chris Hernandez picked up the win by working the next four innings, allowing only a solo home run by Jordan Parraz in the fifth inning, and Georgia native Anthony Carter pitched the ninth and struck out two batters in a 1-2-3 innings.
The PawSox and Braves will continue their four-game series tonight at 6:05 p.m. Alfredo Aceves (1-0, 0.00) will make his second start for Pawtucket.
