Pauly D filming reality spinoff in RI

December 1, 2011

PAWTUCKET — Gym, tanning, laundry and...threading? Who knew? Yet, Jersey Shore's “Pauly D”, aka Paul DelVecchio, visited Sukhy's Threading salon at 85 Power Road on Tuesday afternoon as part of the filming for his own reality TV show.
While a film crew and technicians milled around outside, an SUV pulled up and out jumped the famous DJ and MTV network star. Clad in a white hooded sweatshirt and sporting a baseball cap worn backwards, DelVecchio sprinted quickly into the threading salon, accompanied by two male companions. Reporters were kept at bay while he emerged about 10 minutes later, reportedly after undergoing an eyebrow threading by Sukhy herself. Then, it was back into the vehicle and off, without a word or a wave, with the film crew packing up quickly in his wake.
DelVecchio was born in Providence and grew up in Johnston before he was discovered by a casting agent for MTV's popular reality series Jersey Shore.
His Rhode Island roots will apparently be highlighted as part of a solo spin-off series for MTV called Pauly's World. According to the MTV website, DelVecchio signed a deal in December 2010 with MTV and filming has begun. It is set to premiere “sometime in 2012,” according to the website.
Pauly D's spin-off show has been described as “sharing with viewers what it's like to hang out with him, his manager, his buddy and his bodyguard” as the 31-year-old Rhode Island DJ “hones his skills and works his career.” According to an MTV press release, the network felt that Pauly D “has distinguished himself onscreen as the fun-loving, well-coiffed and dependable guy you can't help but want to hang out with and we know viewers are curious about his life away from the shore.”
Since Jersey Shore's debut in 2009, that life away from the shore has included DJ gigs and live appearances that net him a reported $500,000 a month, the release of a single “(It's Time To) Beat Dat Beat,” which was featured on the Jersey Shore soundtrack, and earning the second highest votes in People Magazine's first Sexiest Man Alive on Facebook poll in 2010.
Additionally, Pauly D was hired as the exclusive DJ at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, and recently launched his own line of tanning lotions and sunless tanning products. Not bad for a former local DJ who worked days at a Rhode Island car dealership and took an EMT course in 2009 with the intention of becoming a firefighter.
However, DelVecchio's solo show will blend his new jet-setting world with the people and places he grew up with. One of those people is Sukhy Dhillon, the owner of Sukhy's Threading, who has been sculpting the DJ's eyebrows for more than a decade. “I knew him before he became famous, when he was just a local DJ,” she said. “He's been coming here all along and he still comes in when he's in Rhode Island. He's a great guy.”
Dhillon and her salon manager, Debra Kurak, said that because of the filming, DelVecchio's visit on Tuesday went a little differently than most. Usually, he just stops in and has his eyebrows done, much to the surprise and delight of the other customers. “They say, like, 'Oh My God!' when they recognize him. He talks with them and poses for pictures. He's so nice, Dhillon said. She added that there were a few people inside the salon when the filming of the MTV segment took place.
Dhillon, who learned the delicate art of eyebrow threading in her native India, said she was the first to bring the practice to Rhode Island. She said the procedure, which involves using fine, antibacterial strings, offers a quick and painless method of shaping eyebrows. “It's better than plucking or waxing,” she stated. Since opening her salon on the Pawtucket/North Providence border 15 years ago, Dhillon has expanded to three more Sukhy's Threading locations, on Central Avenue in Pawtucket, and in Warwick and Seekonk, Mass.
While Pauly D might be Sukhy's most famous client, he is far from being the only male. “I would say that about 40 percent of my customers are guys,” she stated.

It's amazing the attention he gets, is he hired by the unions to distract the idiots in this state from what is real?
