LANCASTER, KY - Mildred Axon Willett, 94, passed away Friday June 6, 2014. She was born in Cumberland, Rhode Island November 7, 1919, she was the fourth and youngest child of Joseph and Ada Ashworth Axon, and grew up in Valley Falls, Rhode Island.
Mrs. Willett and her late husband, Frederick Thompson Willett were married for 74 years and lived on Burgess Avenue in Pawtucket, Rhode Island for 63 years. After which, they moved to Kentucky to enjoy more time with her family. She was known for teaching all those with whom she made contact, the value of a positive attitude and friendly disposition. She always put her loved ones ahead of herself. She will be dearly missed.
She was a devoted wife and mother, a wonderful grandmother and great-grandmother, who loved gardening, flowers, birds, and making her backyard into a sanctuary. She was a wonderful caregiver who cared for various family members throughout her life, especially her brother Harry. An avid walker in her senior years, she enjoyed walking in Slater Park, McCoy Stadium and along Blackstone Blvd.
Mrs. Willett is survived by a son, Frederick John (Pamela) Willett of Lancaster, KY, two grandchildren, Derek Willett of Lexington, KY, and Amie Willett Steeves of Richmond, KY, and seven great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Heritage Hospice for their services and their care. There are no services scheduled. Preston Pruitt Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
