CUMBERLAND â€” Mayor-elect Daniel J. McKee took the oath of office at an inaugural ceremony held Jan. 6 in the Blackstone River Theater.
McKee, 61, ran unopposed in the November general election, winning a sixth term as Cumberland's mayor.
Among those attending the ceremony last Sunday were state Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin and Congressman David Cicilline, as well as a contingent of state representatives and fellow mayors and town administrators.
â€śToday, for the sixth time I have taken an oath to be your mayor. It is an honor and a privilege that I will never take lightly,â€ť McKee said in his Inauguration Day address.
â€śAll over the United States small groups gather as we have today to celebrate this imperfect perfect journey of democracy which began with the declaration that all men are created equal and was formalized with the ratification of our Magna Carta â€” the U.S. Constitution.â€ť
