McGair: Former Shea hoopster named Rookie of the Week at RIC

PROVIDENCE -Freshman center Mike Neal (Pawtucket) was named the Little East Conference Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week for his performance in a 2-0 week for the Anchormen.
Neal produced 6.5 points and 2.0 rebounds per game to help Rhode Island College raise its unbeaten streak to six games with a pair of wins this past week.
The freshman big scored four points and recorded a block in 18 minutes as the Anchormen upset top-ranked MIT, 68-44, on Nov. 29. Two days later, he made his debut in Little East Conference play against Plymouth State, registering nine points and four rebounds in a 68-54 victory against the Panthers.
For the season, he has played in six games, starting all of them. Neal is averaging 6.5 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.
Head Coach Bob Walsh’s team is 6-0 overall. In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to Salve Regina on Tuesday, Dec. 4 (7:30 p.m.).
