LINCOLN - Matilda (Tillie) Josephs passed into eternal life Wednesday, January 5, 2011 surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 94. Matilda, who had been living in Lincoln, RI, for the past 23 years, was the wife of the late Louis G. Josephs. She was the mother of four children: Mary Lou Catelli and her husband William Catelli, Lois Kilsey and her husband George Kilsey, Dr. Leon Josephs and his wife Judith Josephs and her son in law Rt. Rev. John Abdalah. She was the mother of the late Joanne Abdalah. Matilda was also the sister of Abraham Tahmoush, and her twin and the late Sophie Laffey and George Tahmoush.
Matilda had many joys in her life, one being her grandchildren Gregory, Kathryn and her husband Scott, Joseph, Robert, Michael, Maria, Mary and Christopher with whom she loved to cook, sing songs, and tell stories. Another joy was her love of her church, St. Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church, which she served in many capacities including Ladies Society Treasurer, Sunday School Teacher, Choir Director, St. Ignatius member, and the designer/fabricator of many articles used during church services. Matilda loved education and took great joy in celebrating the college graduations of all her children as well as the attainment of her GED. She was a charter member and treasurer of the Henry J. Winters Elementary School PTA. For many years she was employed by Adams Drug Warehouse as a lead person and member of Teamsters Local 251, retiring at the age of 67.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 7, 2011 from 4pm - 8pm at St. Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church, 249 High Street, Pawtucket, RI. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at 10am in the church, followed by burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Pawtucket.
