PAWTUCKET - Mary (Jardin) McCarthy, 87, of Cape Coral, Florida, died Sunday, November 20, 2011 after a long illness. She was the beloved wife of the late William F. McCarthy, Sr. They were happily married for 65 years.
Born in Lowell, MA and raised in Pawtucket, RI, Mary was the daughter of Francisco and Adeline Jardin. Mary lived in Pawtucket while she and Bill raised their family of six children. They retired to Lee County, Florida in 1980 where she lived until the time of her death.
Mary is survived by four sons, William F. Jr., of California, Dennis T. "Tim" and his wife Lynn, of Providence, Robert E. and his wife Rita, of Pawtucket, Kevin S. and his wife Marie, of Fort Myers, Florida, and one daughter, Maureen, of Pawtucket. She was the mother of the late Michael P. McCarthy. Mary is also survived by her ten loving grandchildren, Bridget, Patrick, Ian, Kyle, Sara, Eric, KC, Jardin, Michelle, and Alan and her three great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Michael and Megan. She was the grand- mother of the late Jamie McCarthy.
Mary was a wonderful mom who supported her children in all of their endeavors. She was also very active in McCarthy's Catering, which she and Bill owned and ran together from the 1950's to the early 1970's. When she wasn't helping her children with a school project, she was making sandwiches or preparing the tables with banquet paper and flowers. She once (accidentally!) had a sip of wine and never missed mass on Sunday.
Mary will be remembered by all of those who knew her as kind and generous. She played the straight role in the comedy routines that were part of the loving way that she and Bill related to each other. She will be deeply missed by those who loved her. A memorial mass will be held for Mary at St. Leo's Church on Central Avenue in Pawtucket on Saturday, December 31 at 11:00 AM. Please omit flowers.
