PROVIDENCE - Mary (Stewart) Johnston, 96, of East Street and formerly of Cumberland died Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at the Tockwotton Home, Providence. She was the wife of the late Thomas Charles "Chick" Johnston.
Born in Paisley, Scotland, a daughter of the late Robert and Agnes (Giffen) Stewart, she had lived in Pawtucket for 35 years before moving to Cumberland in 1980. She has lived in Providence for the past several years.
Mrs. Johnston was the supervisor of the Women's division of the Pawtucket YMCA for several years before retiring in 1968. She was a member of the Governing Council of the YMCA.
She was a member of Calvin Presbyterian Church, Cumberland, where she also served on the Building Committee of the Church. She was a former of the Bear Hill Village Tenants Association.
Mrs. Johnston was a music lover and enjoyed arts and crafts.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late John, Andrew and Robert Stewart, and Christina Hunter and Janet Gardner.
Her Memorial Service will be held SATURDAY, DECEMBER 8 at 10 A.M. in Calvin Presbyterian Church, 126 Angell Road, Cumberland.
