ATTLEBORO - Mary Catherine Cuddy, 89, of Canterbury Woods passed away on Tuesday evening, June 7, 2011 in Sturdy Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Arthur Cuddy, previous owner of Wholesale Tire in Cranson, who died in 1973 after 26 years of marriage.
Born June 21, 1921 in Providence, she was a daughter of the late James J. and Madeline (Martin) Deery.
Mary graduated from St. Xavier High School in Providence and Bryant College before working for the former Diocesan newspaper, The Providence Visitor.
She had been a resident of Pawtucket for 62 years before moving to Attleboro.
Mary was a communicant of St. Leo the Great parish in Pawtucket for 62 years where she was a member of the St. Leo Tabernacle Society.
She worked several years at the Blanchette Insurance Agency in Pawtucket until retiring. In retirement, she worked at the La Salette Missionary Association in Attleboro.
She is survived by four children and their spouses, Mary Jane Gariepy and husband Robert of Charlottesville, VA, James A. Cuddy and his wife, Kathleen of Middleton, WI, Anne C. Doran and husband David of North Attleboro and Maureen E. Kapustynski and her husband Joseph of Darien, CT; 14 grandchildren, Matthew, Jonathan, Daniel Gariepy, Katherine Tiller, Brian, Alison Edwards, Elizabeth and Lauren Cuddy, Kyle, Shannon and Patrick Doran, Leigh Anne, Catherine and Caroline Kapustynski.
She is also survived by 6 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held in the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro on Friday, June 10 from 5-8 p.m.
A funeral will be held in St. Leo the Great Parish, 697 Central Avenue, Pawtucket, RI on Saturday, June 11 at 10 a.m. followed by burial and graveside services at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.
