PAWTUCKET - Mary Batista, 93, of Pawtucket, passed away peacefully, Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the Mansion Nursing and Rehabilitative Home, Central Falls. She was the beloved wife of the late James Batista and the late Lewis L. Soares Sr. Born in Lisbon, Portugal, the daughter of the late Jose and Clementina (Silva) Costa. She came to America at the age of 10. She had worked at the former Standard Romper, Central Falls and Lawrence Fashions, Pawtucket, until her retirement. She was also a member of the ILGW.
She is survived by her daughters, Dr. Carol A. O'Hearn of Burlington, MA and Patricia (Trish) Benabio of Newport, and her son Lewis L. Soares and his wife Norma of Pawtucket, 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves her brother, Edmund Costa of Woodland Hills, CA. She was the sister of the late Victor and Manuel, and Lucinda DaCosta. She was the grandmother of the late Keri-Lyn Soares and the mother-in-law of the late David O'Hearn.
Relatives and friends are invited to a service Monday, October 28, 2013 at 11am in the Costigan-O'Neill Funeral Home, 220 Cottage Street, Pawtucket. Visitation will be from 10-11am, prior to the service. Burial will be private.
