PAWTUCKET - Marie A. (King) Cheetham, President of Cheetham Mortuary, Inc. and a Pawtucket business woman for over 60 years died Monday at Philip Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence. She was born in Pawtucket, a daughter of the late Henry J. and Elizabeth A.(Farrell) King. For a time she resided at Capitol Ridge of Providence where she enjoyed the company of the staff and fellow residents.
She was a 1938 graduate of the Sacred Heart High School, a charter member of the Sacred Heart Guild, past President of the former Sacred Heart Seniors and a loyal parishioner of Sacred Heart Parish until its closing.
She was a communicant and benefactor of St. Leo the Great Church and a past Secretary of the former St. Leo Senior Citizens now know as The Spirited Saints. She was a member of the Pawtucket Preservation Society and believed in its motto: "A past for the future". She donated generously to the Potter-Burns Elementary School Garden, and also to the City's defibrillator program focusing on Girls' Sports.
She will be remembered not only as a kind and generous woman, but for her many years of helping, guiding and caring for generations of families during the loss of their loved ones.
She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth A. "Betsy" Feid and her husband Jerry of Matunuck, and Patricia M. Keefe of Barrington, six grandchildren Kris Masoian of Pawtucket, Trish MacGillivray of Barrington, Martin Feid of Agawam, MA, John G. Keefe of Twinsburg, OH, Amy Keefe of Seattle, WA, and Catherine Vanasse of Wakefield, nine great-grandchildren, four nephews and two nieces. She was predeceased by her son, Bill Cheetham, and her sister Ruth Skeffington-Donovan. She was the former wife of the late William H. Cheetham Sr.
The funeral will be held on Friday at 9AM from the CHEETHAM MORTUARY, INC., 1012 Newport Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM in St. Leo the Great Church, 697 Central Ave. Graveside burial will follow in Mt. St. Mary Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
