Marie Blanche Bergeron
November 3, 1916 - January 19, 2011
NORTH ATTLEBORO - Sister Blanche Marie Bergeron, SUSC (Marie Blanche Bergeron) died on January 19, 2011 at Madonna Manor Nursing Home at the age of 94. A native of Pawtucket, RI, Sister Blanche Marie was the daughter of the late Joseph and Marie (Lamoureux) Bergeron. In addition to her Holy Union Sisters, her sisters Loretta Cunha, Germaine Genest, Lillianne Depot, Therese Marziasz, Clarice McCormick and brother Gerard Bergeron and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews survive her. Her sisters Jeannette Paquin, Edna Pyne and brother Arthur Bergeron predeceased her.
Sister Blanche Marie attended St. John Baptist High School in Pawtucket, RI. She entered the Holy Union Sisters in Fall River, MA on February 24, 1939 and professed her final vows August 1, 1946. She studied at the College of the Sacred Hearts, Fall River, MA and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Catholic Teachers College, Providence, RI and a Masters in Library Science from the University of Rhode Island. She was a certified librarian in the Rhode Island public schools.
Sister Blanche Marie's teaching career spanned over forty years in elementary schools in Massachusetts, New York and Rhode Island. Her first assignment was at Sacred Heart School, Lawrence, MA. From 1947 to 1961, she taught at St. Anne School, Waterford, NY and from 1961 to 1966, she taught at Sacred Heart School, North Attleboro. From 1968 to 1972 she taught at St. Cecilia School, Pawtucket and her last mission was at the Country Day School of the Holy Union, Groton, MA, as a teacher from 1972-1986 and then librarian from 1986 to 1991. When she retired from teaching, she served as assistant secretary and treasurer of the former Groton Province of the Holy Union Sisters. She was also in charge of hospitality for the former Holy Union Spiritual Life Center in Groton. In 2001, she retired fully at St. Mary's Villa, Lowell, MA. In 2006, Sister Blanche Marie moved to Madonna Manor, North Attleboro where she remained until her death.
The wake will be at Sacred Heart Church, 58 Church Street, North Attleboro on Monday, January 24 from 10:00-10:30 followed by the vigil service at 10:30 and the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00. Following the funeral, the burial will be at Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket.
