PAWTUCKET- Manuel Nunes, 87, of Pawtucket, passed away peacefully Friday, February 17, 2012. He was the husband of the late Jennie (Wojcikiewicz) Nunes.
Born in Utica, New York, he was the son of the late Manuel and Maria (Rodrigues) Nunes.
A navy veteran of World War II, he served aboard LST 285 during the Normandy invasion. He was employed in the textile industry, having worked at Sidney Blumenthal, Valley Falls, for twenty years. He later worked as a steel worker and foreman at Pawtucket Fasteners Inc. for twenty five years, retiring in 1989. After retirement, he worked part time at L&L Sunoco on Broadway in Pawtucket. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, gardening, pets, helping others, making people smile or laugh, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth Anne and Marianne Nunes of Pawtucket, and Judy Nunes of Milford, CT, one sister, Mary Calista of Pawtucket, three brother-in-laws, two nieces, three nephews, several cousins, and one great niece and two great nephews. He also leaves his grand dog, Jesse.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 9Am in the COSTIGAN-O'NEILL Funeral Home, 220 Cottage Street, Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in Saint Joseph Church, Walcott Street, Pawtucket. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours Monday 4-7PM in the funeral home.
