CUMBERLAND - Manuel A. Luis, 61, of Forest Ave. passed away Tuesday in the Philip Hulitar Center, Providence. He was the beloved husband of Eva M. (Mendes) Luis.
Born in Porto de Covoes, Portugal he was the son of Maria (Odete) Luis of Cumberland and the late Manuel Dos Santos Luis. He came to this country in 1968 settling in Cumberland.
He was employed by the Stern-Leach Co., Attleboro for the past 16 years. He was previously the owner of CDS Liquors, Providence for 8 years.
Mr. Luis was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Cumberland. He was a member of the Clube Juventude Lusitana, Cumberland and manager and member of the club band. He also played for the theatre group at the Amigos da Tercera, Pawtucket. He was also a member of the locally known band, "Os Sombras" playing at weddings and other social events. As one could tell his life revolved around music.
Besides his wife and mother he leaves three daughters, Sara, Diane and Cristina Luis all of Cumberland. He also leaves a sister, Rosa M. Iwuc also of Cumberland.
A celebration of his life will be held Saturday and begin at 9 a.m. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd. Rte. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Dr., Cumberland. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
