PAWTUCKET — Police are investigating a home invasion and stabbing of a man and a woman inside an apartment at 21 Memorial Drive that was reported on Thursday afternoon.
The owner of the house, Marilia Duarte, said she had been notified by police shortly before 3 p.m. that her second floor tenant, a woman in her 50s, had been found stabbed and had been taken to the hospital. The door to the two-family home had been kicked in, she said.
Police sources confirmed that a man had also been found stabbed and had been taken to a local hospital for treatment. It has been reported that both victims' injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Duarte said she had rented the second-floor apartment in her house to the female victim and her son, who is in his 30s, for about two years and had never had any trouble with them as tenants. She said the victim works a part-time job and she was told that the victim's son had been at work at the time of the incident.
Duarte, who has lived on the first floor of the tidy, yellow bungalow-style house for over 20 years, said “We never had anything like this happen around here.” She added that the incident had left her feeling “scared and concerned.”
On Thursday afternoon, Pawtucket Police were releasing few details about the case. Police Major Arthur Martins would only confirm that there had been an incident involving injuries to people at that address that was being investigated. He said there was a language barrier and that detectives were still trying to sort through what had occurred.
