Loretta A. Bessette
PAWTUCKET - Loretta A. Bessette, 80, of Pawtucket, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2012 surrounded by her husband and six children. She was the beloved wife of Leo Bessette Jr. They were happily married for fifty six years.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Helge and Loretta (Lamoray) Larson. Mrs. Bessette lived most of her life in Pawtucket. Before starting her family she was a telephone operator for New England Telephone in Pawtucket and East Providence. She was one of the original lunch mothers at Saint Leo The Great Church and volunteered at Saint Joseph Food Pantry in Pawtucket.
Loretta and Leo wintered in Florida for many years and enjoyed summers in Charlestown, RI. Besides her husband, she is survived by her children, Lisa O'Brien and her husband Charles, Lori Ruggiero and her husband Andrew, Leslie Charbonneau and her husband John, Leo Bessette III and his wife Marie, Lanni Johnson, and Linda Twardowski and her husband Michael. She also leaves ten grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the grandmother of the late Michael O'Brien and the sister of the late William Beauchemin, Victor Larson, and Edith Cabral.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 9AM from the COSTIGAN-O'NEILL Funeral Home, 220 Cottage Street, Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in Saint Joseph Church, 195 Walcott Street, Pawtucket. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours Monday 4-7PM in the funeral home.
