Lillian R. McGowan
CUMBERLAND - Lillian R. (Hulme) McGowan passed away peacefully October 23, 2012. At 100 years of age, Lillian was ready to enjoy eternity with her beloved Bill and the Blessed Mother, both of whom shared in her devotion.
In God's gardens, Lillian may once again tend the flowers and write her poetry or sit in the sun while she quilts. A corner bower will house a baby grand for her music. And every sun-gray day, Lillian's loving legacy of 6 children, 16 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 7 great, great grandchildren will hold her in our hearts.
Halfway through her life, Lillian fulfilled her dream of becoming a nurse. Years after she retired from the West Warwick Visiting Nurse Association, she still loved visiting her patients.
Lillian leaves behind her four daughters: Maureen A. Eichorn of Glocester, RI, Judy M. Violet of Linville, NC, Eileen R. Pratt of Cumberland, RI and Linda M. Langlois of Wakefield, RI; two sons: William M. McGowan, Jr. of North Providence, RI and Thomas A. McGowan (Florida).
A celebration of her life will be held Friday at 10 AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in the Historic St. Joseph Church, Mendon Road, Cumberland. Burial will follow in the Mt. St. Mary Cemetery. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting Hours will be held Thursday from 4 to 8 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Home and Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904 or to the RI Food Bank, 200 Niantic Avenue, Providence, RI 0290.
