Let the (world) record reflect a cooking marathon at Lincoln church

March 12, 2014

LINCOLN — Ben Perry wants to pursue a culinary arts degree at Johnson & Wales University next year, and he thinks he might have a resume credential that could set him apart and impress the university's admissions office: Guinness World Record holder.

At approximately 4:19 p.m. Wednesday, Perry, an 18-year-old senior at The Met School in Providence, completed 40 hours of nonstop cooking to break the current Guinness World Record of 36 hours and 58 minutes for longest cooking marathon by an individual.

The current Guinness record was set in 2012 by Rob Smink at a cooking school in the Netherlands.

Exhausted and bleary-eyed, a triumphant Perry, who had been cooking up a storm since midnight Tuesday in the kitchen at the St. Basil’s Church Cultural Center in Lincoln, pumped his fist as the clock struck 4:19.
