Leonel Cesar Pereira
PAWTUCKET - Leonel Cesar Pereira, 88, of North Bend Street, Pawtucket, passed quietly Friday, September 2, 2011 at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of the late Arminda (Rodrigues) Pereira.
Mr. Pereira was born in the village of Alvendre, District of Guarda, Portugal. He was the son of the late Jose Cesar and Celeste Pereira. A police officer in Portugal before moving to the United States in 1954 with his wife and son, he arrived, like most immigrants chasing the American dream. He began in road crews but soon moved to the wire factories of Pawtucket where he worked as a machine operator for American Insulated Wire for 19 years. He retired from Carol Cable as a shipping clerk in 1985. He was a longtime member of St. Joseph's Parish and the Sportinguistas Club of RI. He took great pride in his vegetable garden and making wine from his own vines.
Mr. Pereira is survived by his son, Albert and loving daughter-in-law Carol of Seekonk, MA. Two grandsons, David, his wife Samantha and their daughter Mattea Eve; and Christopher Pereira and his son Kaylem. He is also survived by brothers Gabriel Pereira of South Attleboro and Anthony Pereira of Brazil, and sisters, Elvira Correia and Mercedes Bernardo both of Pawtucket.
The family wishes to acknowledge Maria Lucia Tabrizi whose tender care and warm heart made his past three years on this earth ever so fulfilling.
