Leon J. Therrien
ATTLEBORO Leon J. Therrien, 95, passed away Monday April 28, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was the beloved husband of the late Jennie (Hedyka) Therrien.
Born in St. Nazaire, Quebec, Canada he was a son of the late Joseph and Rose-Alma (Bergeron) Therrien. He resided in South Attleboro for the past 49 years and was formerly of Pawtucket.
Before retiring Leon was employed as a Wire Extruder for the former Collyer Insulated Wire Co. for 44 years.
Leon had zest for life. At the age of 5 he played the fiddle with his grandfather on Saturday nights earning extra money. In his 20s he played the Tenor Sax in a band. Leon and his late wife Jennie belonged to a motorcycle club. He also raised tropical fish.
In 1967 they moved in with his mother in law to help run the family farm. He enjoyed farming, tending to the animals and riding his horse.
Leon lived his life surrounded by his family, friends and his dog, just the way he wanted.
Mr. Therrien is survived by his loving daughter Suzanne Purrier and her husband Donald of Leesburg, FL, two devoted granddaughters Jennifer Roche and her husband Chris of North Attleboro and their children Ryan, William and Paul, Nicole Wenger and her husband Chris of Glenwood Springs, CO and their children Sim and Grant. He was the grandfather of the late Steven Dowgiala and the great grandfather of Stevens daughter Zoe. Mr. Therrien also leaves two nieces, Diane McDowell and Denise Therrien along with one nephew David Therrien. He was the brother of the late Phillip Therrien.
The funeral for Mr. Therrien will be held Saturday May 3, 2014 at 8:30 a.m. from the Karol A. Romenski & Sons Funeral Home 342 High Street Central Falls with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph's Church 391 High Street Central Falls at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend. CALLING HOURS FRIDAY FROM 4:00 P.M. TO 7:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers Memorial Donations in Mr. Therrien's Memory to your local chapter of the American Red Cross would be greatly appreciated. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket.
