WEST WARWICK — Tolman High passed its latest test with flying colors.
After West Warwick had rallied for three runs in the last of the sixth inning to knot Saturday’s Division II crossover contest at 5-all, Tolman responded by pushing across the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh in an eventual 6-5 Tiger victory. Tolman improves to 8-0 in II-Central while W.W. falls to 4-2 in II-Central.
Trailing 5-2, the Wizards tied the game on a three-run home run by freshman Briana Gough. Eager to keep their perfect league record intact, the Tigers started the top of the seventh on a promising note as junior Ashley Hessler singled before getting sacrificed to second base.
That brought up junior Olivia Larson, who promptly ripped a double to score Hessler. West Warwick threatened in the bottom of the seventh, but Larson escaped a two-on, two-out pickle with a fly out.
Larson finished 2-for-3 with two RBI while striking out four on the mound. Batterymate Megan Klemanchuck went 3-for-4 with two runs driven in.
This is a three-game week for Tolman, which commences Tuesday with a road game at East Greenwich. A home date against Exeter/West Greenwich looms Thursday before Tolman hits the road once again for a Saturday night showdown against Mt. Hope.
