NARRAGANSETT - Joseph J. Day, 78, of Narragansett and formerly of Pawtucket died Saturday, November 26, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. He was the long time companion of Ginny Szymkowicz.
Mr. Day was born in Pawtucket, the son of the late Joseph and Irene (Garrity) Day.
He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Day served two terms as the Exalted Ruler of the Pawtucket Lodge of Elks #920 and was a member of the East Greenwich Fireman's Club.
He was employed by the Pawtucket Times, the Pawtucket Water Board and was a dispatcher for the Pawtucket Police Department.
Besides his companion Ginny, Mr. Day is survived by his sons, Michael and Tommy Day of Tacoma, Washington and his grandchildren, Cameron, Peyton, and Jayne Day. He also leaves his sister Shirley Entwistle and her husband Charles of North Attleboro Ma., his nieces Judy Josephs, Patricia Roberts, and Linda Kayata and a nephew Charles Entwistle. He also leaves several grand nieces and nephews.
The funeral for Mr. Day will be Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. from the MANNING-HEFFERN FUNERAL HOME, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Teresa's Church, 358 Newport Avenue, Pawtucket at 10:00 a.m. His burial will be with full Military Honors in Mt. St. Mary's Cemetery, Pawtucket. The calling hours will be Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. in the funeral home.
