Joseph I. Thurber Jr.
CUMBERLAND - Joseph I. Thurber Jr., 84, of Day Rd. died Friday in the Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket. He was the beloved husband of Mildred (Sword) Thurber. They were preparing to celebrate their 62nd wedding anniversary this month.
Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Joseph I. and Jeanette (Bourassa) Thurber Sr. He resided in Cumberland for the past 61 years.
He was employed as the Service Manager by the former Mandeville Chevrolet, North Attleboro for over 30 years until his retirement.
He was a WW II, U. S. Navy veteran. Mr. Thurber was a communicant of the Historic St. Joseph Church, Cumberland.
Besides his wife he leaves a son Joseph I. Thurber III of Lincoln and four grandsons, Joseph I. Thurber IV; Matthew, Justin and Jason Thurber. He was also the father of the late James E and Debra M. Thurber.
A celebration of his life including military honors will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd. Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Historic St. Joseph Church, Mendon Rd., Cumberland. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
