PAWTUCKET- Joseph Fernandes, 95 of Grandeville Court, Wakefield died Saturday at South County Hospital, Wakefield. He was the husband of Alice (Lopes) Fernandes.
Born in Taunton, Ma. a son of the late Albert and Izaura (Almeida) Fernandes. He has lived in Wakefield for the past three years and prior to that he lived in North Providence and Pawtucket.
Mr. Fernandes was the owner of Joe's Market in Pawtucket.
He served in the army during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart. Joe was currently the oldest living member of the Portuguese Social Club in Pawtucket.
Besides his wife he leaves four daughters Elizabeth Maresca and her husband Robert of Lincoln, Joan Raulston and her husband Michael of San Diego, California, Margaret Thibaudeau of Narragansett and Susan DiPrete and her husband Dennis of Narragansett, one sister Margaret Mello of Providence, eight grandchildren Nadine Pugliese, Andrea Maresca, Meegan Stephenson, Nicholas Maresca, Denalee DeRosa, Katherine DiPrete, Chad Raulston, Paige DiPrete and three great grandsons. He was the brother of the late John Fernandes his twin.
Joe enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren, his daily walks and smoking his pipe.
His funeral will be held on Thursday at 8:45. am from BELLOWS-FALSO FUNERAL CHAPEL 160 River Rd. Lincoln, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anthony Church Lawn Ave. Pawtucket at 10am. Burial with Military Honors in Mt. St. Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket. Relatives and friends are invited and may call WEDNESDAY 4-8pm.
