Joseph E. Packer Sr.
CUMBERLAND - Joseph E. Packer Sr., 57, passed away Saturday at the Saint Elizabeth Medical Center, Brighton, MA. He was the beloved husband of Colleen R. (Moran) Packer, and they had been married for 18 years.
Born in Central Falls, RI, he was the son of the late Stephen and Bernadette (Stauff) Packer. He was a life-long resident of Cumberland.
Mr. Packer was a United States Navy Veteran.
Joe was employed as manager for the City Packing, Boston for 37 years until his brief illness.
Mr. Packer was a charter member of the Garfield Social Club of Central Falls. He was an avid Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots fan.
Besides his wife, he leaves his son, Joseph (Kimberly) E. Packer Jr. of Cumberland, his daughter, Rachel (Matthew) Smith of Cumberland; his brother, Stephen (Diane) Packer III of Naples, FL; three sisters, Maureen (Normand) Gregoire of Glocester, RI, Mary (Edward) Garrity of Naples, FL and Dorothy (Donald) Audette of Connecticut; his brother-in-law, Jack (Lynn) Moran of Live Oak, FL; three grandchildren, Natalie Packer, Cayden Packer and Ava Smith; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Henry Packer and James Packer.
A celebration of his life will be held Tuesday with Visiting Hours from 4 to 8 PM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. A prayer service with Military Honors will be held at 7:45 PM. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society.
