Jose Lameiras Alves
CUMBERLAND - Jose Lameiras Alves, 79, of Cumberland, passed away Friday, November 2, in the Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of Mary C. (Paiva) Alves.
Born in Aldeia Formosa, Portugal, he was the son of the late Adelino and Maria Augusta (Tavares) Alves. He resided in Cumberland for many years.
He was a United States Army, Korean War Veteran.
Mr. Alves was employed as a production manager for American Insulated Wire for 38 years, retiring in 1990.
He was a communicant of St. Aidan Church, Cumberland. Jose was an avid New York Yankees, and New York Giants fan; he also loved bowling and golfing. He was the former president of the Lusitana Band, and life-long member of the Clube Juventude Lusitana. He was also an active member of the VFW Post-14 of Cumberland.
Besides his wife he leaves one daughter, Sabrina Boulay and her husband David of North Attleboro; two sons, Jose L. Alves Jr. and Janice Curtis of South Attleboro and Ricardo Alves of Cumberland; one sister Maria A. Caetano and her husband Antonio of Cumberland; one brother Antonio Alves and his wife Susan of Cumberland; six granddaughters, and four great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held Monday at 9:30 AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in St. Aidan Church, 1460 Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting Hours will be held Sunday from 4 to 8 PM.
